About Program

Capital of Italy’s Tuscany region and known as “the Cradle of the Renaissance,” Florence has long been a source of inspiration for visionaries such as Galileo Galilei, Leonardo da Vinci, and Niccolò Machiavelli. It is known for the Cathedral on the Pizza del Duomo, a domed edifice engineered by Fillipo Brunelleschi, which includes an iconic bell tower rising high above the city. This once-Roman city, established by Julius Ceasar in 59 BC and steeped in history, is the present home to some the worlds top fashion designers and major wine labels.

The CEA CAPA Florence Center offers a variety of learning opportunities in English and Italian where you get to explore the city with your professors as guides.

In addition to Study Abroad programs, explore CEA CAPA Internships Abroad Florence, our dynamic program that provides hands-on, practical experience to help you rise above the competition.

Diversity & Inclusion 💙

CEA CAPA provides, in conjunction with Diversity Abroad, Destination Guides which provide resources and tips for Black/African-American students, Latinx students, Asian American students, and all other students of color.
Through our personalized advising, CEA CAPA takes steps to understand the needs of a diversity of student identities like the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition to diversity and identity training, CEA CAPA leadership engage in continuous department level project work to identify and revise policies and practices using the appropriate Justice, Equity, Diversity or Inclusion lens as a frame to reduce bias and barriers that impact students, faculty, and staff. CEA CAPA is intentional in elevating diverse student voices and providing a platform for a broad array of identities to share their experiences abroad. The CEA CAPA World Blog promotes stories and personal experiences from the perspectives of diverse student bloggers and vloggers.
CEA CAPA is willing and able to assist students with learning disabilities and physical disabilities. Students are requested to disclose disabilities through the application health forms as part of their application and in discussion with their application advisor or program manager. The earlier CEA CAPA is made aware of learning or physical disabilities the better we can work with the student, institution, and overseas team to tailor an Individualized Education Program if necessary to support the student.

My studying abroad experience!

My studying abroad experience with CAPA was amazing they had several activities planned for us throughout our trip all of them helped us get immersed into the culture. We had many activities planned for us throughout the city like hikes and tours to get immersed in the culture and history of the beautiful city that is Florence. The people at the CAPA center in Florence were amazing as well because they helped us in anything that we needed whenever we needed. Another thing I love is that CAPA also offers opportunities like internships as well which I think is a great opportunity to get a feel for your career and what better than in Florence, Italy! Overall I was more than satisfied with my study abroad experience and I welcome anyone interested to travel with CAPA.

What would you improve about this program?
Honestly I can’t think of any major improvements because CAPA seems experienced enough and they know what to offer and how to help if anyone needed it.

A Semester Abroad in Florence, Italy with CAPA

This was the best semester of my life studying abroad and I am so happy I decided to go with CAPA. The classes were just hard enough to where I felt like I learned a lot but I also had time to travel a ton! I only ended up having class Monday through Wednesday - so I had the opportunity to travel to 12 different countries in the 14 weeks I was there. CAPA was so supportive, they put me in awesome accommodation about 5 minutes away from the school, and they had a few fun excursions too! I went on this program completely on my own but making friends was so easy because of the activities they have you do.

Florence was absolutely the best study abroad city! It was completely walkable and by the end of the semester it really felt like home. There was so much to do in the city but it was still central enough that traveling was so easy. Another thing that I liked about Florence was that the language barrier wasn't really an issue. Most of the locals were so welcoming because Florence has SO many study abroad students. I never felt unsafe or unwelcome in the city!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
My friends and I decided to take a last minute trip to Tangier, Morocco for spring break while we were in Barcelona and Madrid. We booked plane tickets a few days in advance so it was very impromtu! While we were there we had the chance to ride camels on the beach which was one of the best days of my life. We were only there for a few short days but I cannot wait to go back to this country - everything about it was amazing!

PHENOMENAL TRIP

Studying abroad in Florence was one of the best decisions of my life. I am so grateful to my program because it has given me a whole new perspective on the world and inspired my curiosity about other cultures. CAPA made my experience incredible by encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and immerse myself into Italy's fascinating culture. The entire trip was inspiring and has forever changed myself as an individual. Florence has impacted me tremendously, enhancing my cultural skills and increasing my desire for more intercultural interactions. I also got to meet incredible people and create lasting friendships with the students in my program. I highly recommend this program to anyone that is seeking a different perspective on the world and life itself.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Step out of your comfort zone. Studying in this culturally diverse city will improve many life skills, create unforgettable memories, and prepare you for life after graduating.

Hidden gems in Florence

Studying abroad was the best experience of my life. I got to immerse myself in Italian culture through long weekends, class field trips around Tuscany, and long lunch breaks. I not only learned about the topics we discussed in class, but how those topics work in Italy and their relationship with culture.
The CAPA staff are amazing. Give great recommendations, directions, tips, and etiquette lessons. I had shown the staff a picture of a statue I saw on Pinterest asking why I don’t see it. I immediately got directions to go just outside of Florence to the park that this statue was at. They then gave tips on where to eat in the area. This was overall a great experience that I would recommend anyone to take advantage of and CAPA made it even better.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Pack lighter. You will probably have to carry your luggage up stairs and down streets. Elevators are not common and some streets close at different times in the day.

A Life-Changing Experience!

This program was nothing short of incredible. The entire staff was so supportive and helpful, from pre-departure to alumni status. They were really friendly and provided us with many opportunities to get involved and experience the local culture outside of our regular classes. The classes were engaging and incredible relevant to life around us. My favorite was an art history class- I could walk around Florence, look at sculptures and architecture, and really know what I was talking about! The professors know that you spend a lot of time enjoying the city and traveling, and take that into account when assigning coursework. I highly recommend exploring this program option- you will get support and a well-rounded experience that you won't get anywhere else!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Liver pate! Something unexpected for me, but you try a lot of new things abroad and are grateful for the experiences you have.

Choose CEA!

CEA is such a helpful, well-organized, and fun program dedicated to making the transition to living in a foreign country seamless. The teachers prioritize their students' abroad experiences by giving them a quality education, but also recognizing that learning outside of the classroom through real-life experiences is important. They also make sure that although you are surrounded by American students very frequently, you also experience the culture and meet the locals. I would recommend anyone looking for cultural immersion, traveling experience, and new friendships that will last a lifetime to choose CEA and study in Florence, Italy, a city that is filled with Renaissance art, history and some of the most amazing pizza and pasta that you will ever eat!

What would you improve about this program?
CEA is a very well run program and I wouldn't suggest any improvements

This Program is Life Changing

I spent a month studying abroad this summer and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I learned so much and gained a new kind of confidence that I did not have before. I didn't believe people when they told me that studying abroad would change me, but it absolutely did.
Florence is indescribable and I had so much fun exploring it and other parts of Italy. CAPA's program is great and I would do it again in a second.

My Italian Future

I am currently in colllege and decided to study abroad in Italy to help complete my minor in psychology and criminology degree. Once I got there I received so much more. I got to meet Italians and experience there everyday life. They made me appreciate my life at home and the things we take for granted. While I was in Italy my friends and I use to walk around to get lost, so we could find new places to go to. Every restaurant we ate at, the food was phenomenal. The people were very helpful and made me love their country even more. I will definitely be moving there once I get the resources to do so.

What would you improve about this program?
The only improvement that needs to be done is making the trip longer than a month.
