About Program

Capital of Italy’s Tuscany region and known as “the Cradle of the Renaissance,” Florence has long been a source of inspiration for visionaries such as Galileo Galilei, Leonardo da Vinci, and Niccolò Machiavelli. It is known for the Cathedral on the Pizza del Duomo, a domed edifice engineered by Fillipo Brunelleschi, which includes an iconic bell tower rising high above the city. This once-Roman city, established by Julius Ceasar in 59 BC and steeped in history, is the present home to some the worlds top fashion designers and major wine labels.

The CEA CAPA Florence Center offers a variety of learning opportunities in English and Italian where you get to explore the city with your professors as guides.

In addition to Study Abroad programs, explore CEA CAPA Internships Abroad Florence, our dynamic program that provides hands-on, practical experience to help you rise above the competition.

An incredible semester in Italy!

The best part about my study abroad experience with CAPA was my internship at the Leonardo da Vinci museum. As an intern at the museum, I got to meet some of the most incredible people! From local employees to tourists from around the world, I had such interesting conversations and learned so much about so many different cultures. My classes at CAPA were also very culturally immersive. My Renaissance Art History Class took field trips every single class to view authentic Renaissance art in museums and churches. I highly recommend the CAPA program and taking advantage of local internship!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
A "lampredotto" panino! Florence is known for this unique sandwich made with the stomach lining of a cow.

Dreaming in Florence

Florence with CAPA is a once in a lifetime experience! In my four weeks there, I swear I saw the entire city! Even classes at CAPA were something to look forward to, the school itself is beautiful, and in a prime location. I can't imagine what Florence would have been like without CAPA. The staff was amazing when it came to any type of issue. Whether it had to do with housing, school, where to eat, or how things work in Italy, the people at CAPA were more than willing to help. It was the best trip of my life!

What would you improve about this program?
Honestly nothing comes to mind. Whenever I had an issue, CAPA was there to help.

CEA Excursions in 3 words: Veni, vidi, vici

🚨SPOILER ALERT 🚨 I came;I saw; I conquered Florence, Italy with CEA. My experience with CEA excursions was perfect! In the Summer of 2018 I explored a winery in Tuscany and ate from a selection of local meats & cheeses and fresh bread with Tuscany famous olive oil! I drank delicious wine from the vineyard with friends from my study abroad and intern classes with CEA. On top of all that I got to experience the beautiful city of Milan, Italy. Where we saw the famous 3rd largest Catholic Church in the World and Also visit the Famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and many more amazing sites for a weekend! Highly recommend for anyone interested in food, art and new adventures!

Study outside the classroom with CEA Study abroad!

I studied abroad in the Summer of 2018, I throughly enjoyed my experience! I took The culture of Food and Wine course and learned through excursions and classroom discussions. My professor was not only professional but knowledgeable about the local & National Italy cuisine and wine! She took us to food markets, gelaterias and many more. I really enjoyed learning how to pair food and wine. I highly recommend to anyone whose interested in learning about the history of food and wine in Italy to check out this program!

Study outside the classroom with CEA

I studied abroad in Florence, Italy in the Summer of 2018 and learned so much about the local cuisine and wine through excursions and classroom discussions. I took The Culture of Food & Wine and was blown away by how professional the professor was and how knowledgeable she us on the subject. She introduced us to several food markets, gelaterias and so much more! We even learned what foods to pair with wine and the history of Italians relationship with both. I learned more with CEA study abroad class than I would have on my own!

A Semester in Italy

Personally, I believe that Italy is arguably the most beautiful country in the world just within its borders one can find countless beaches, beautiful Tuscan hills, stunning mountain ranges, and everything in between. That being said, spending 3 months abroad in Florence, Italy was one of the best experiences of my life, if not the best. Every day and night there was always something to do and see such as hiking on beautiful trails, trying fantastic new foods, going dancing with your friends, and just walking around the beautiful city of Florence was enough to do. Along with the things that the city has to offer, taking classes about the literature of Italy, including things like Dante's Inferno and then being able to go to the very place he wrote his book was truly surreal. Then after class I was easily able to travel on weekends by booking a train ticket to many places in Italy such as Venice, Rome, and Cinque Terre. After a few months of living abroad, you begin to consider Italy your second home.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
One thing I did regret was not going to enough places within Italy, and even though I went to about 10 different cities in just Italy alone I still had some places I really wanted to visit. My advice is to go early on and ask CAPA staff for any help with things such as buying plane or train tickets, they are more than willing to help and go above and beyond.

CAPA Florence

Studying abroad while in school saves you the hassle of planning a trip and worrying about the expenses, travel, stay and safety. The CAPA staff were friendly, compassionate, helpful and overall fun to work with. Studying abroad was the highlight of my summer and I would recommend anyone and everyone to pursue an education abroad especially through CAPA.

All though most of the expenses are taken care of while you are abroad, you still have to be financially responsible ensure that you have some money for personal expenses and souvenirs. Make a budget sheet and stick to it. Do not overspend, and make sure to say no to friends about a night out or a trip if you cannot afford it. It is easy to be caught up in a lot of activities that can make you fall short financially.
Make sure to build networks even if it is for a short period of time, and seek out local friends to practice the language of the country you visit.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Live in the moment. As much as it is nice to take a picture or a video everywhere and anywhere you go, try to be more present. The memory you hold on to is far more important than some likes and re-shares

Why I would Recommend CAPA

I would recommend CAPA because it provided me with a life changing experience. I know there are a lot of other institutes that offer similar programs but at CAPA, the students always come first. A representative met us at the airport and helped us get home from it as well. They care about safety and provide so much knowledge about each global city they represent. The were many way to get involved in the culture as well including outreach and other classes a well such as teaching english to italian children and a pasta making course. Lastly, A lot of credit goes to the staff because no matter what, and I emphasize this again, they are here for you, and they always put a smile on their face and make sure you are getting the best experience while studying abroad.

What would you improve about this program?
Nothing, everything that CAPA did had an impact on who I am today through my studies and adventurous side
