I just have to commend the Teaching Nomad team for being dedicated individuals and really ensuring that they are providing us with the best support! Once I was determined to participate in a teach and travel experience, I was overwhelmed and not sure how I should go about the whole process. Sophia from Teaching Nomad was especially helpful and went above and beyond to help me score the perfect job. I was rejected by my first choice job initially but Sophia followed up with the company and I got my interview in the end. Thanks to her and the rest of the teams efforts to fight for me, I am now embarking on a journey that I really wanted. I couldn't have done this without them and I'm incredibly grateful!

What would you improve about this program?

I have not started my program yet but I thought it was important for me to comment on the great experience I've already received. I will write another review once my program is over.

I was looking for ESL jobs in Asia when Sophia Isis, from Teaching Nomad, found me. Since our first contact, Sophia has been friendly, personable and very efficient. As someone who has used ISS and SA, Teaching Nomad was by far the easiest process I have gone through. It didn't cost me anything, unlike those other two programs and after one email contact, I was able to speak with the Teaching Nomad representative and get all the information I needed to continue with the job application. It was quick, efficient, friendly, and effective (I got the job)

Going through Teaching Nomad was the best decision I could have made coming to Shanghai. Sophia，who was my recruiter was very helpful and patient in dealing with my applicaton. She responded to any questions I had in a timely manner which made the entire process very straightforward. I haven't been in Shanghai very long but thus far everything has gone smoother than I could have ever expected. A large part of this is due to the guys at Teaching Nomad. I 100% recommend this company to anybody considering coming to Shanghai.

Educators wary of generic employment listings via web sites intended for the average must avail of the quality services offered by the wonderful employees of Teaching Nomad. Career > job. Especially considering the economy in China, educators will appreciate obtaining exciting / rewarding employment.

The thrill of moving half-way across the world was amazing. The move was from the US to China with my husband and two small boys. The culture shock was very difficult to get used to along with not knowing any Mandarin. The sights and history of China is amazing and was the most memorable experience of living abroad. It was very difficult working with local teachers on a day to day basis because the work ethics are so different from the US. The public transportation system in Shanghai is exceptional. It was very reliable and inexpensive. We enjoyed the food and the abundance of shopping opportunities in the big city. I would recommend for everyone to live/work abroad for at least a year. Your views and thoughts are broadened as well so you leave with a greater sense of appreciation for all countries of the world. I do not recommend long term living in China because you can become very disconnected with western ways and sometimes lose a sense of who you are or where you came from. But, some people might want this!

What is the current situation with UK resident teaching in China for September? Would I be allowed through a working VISA?

At this time, many schools in China are hiring from overseas and feel confident they will be able to secure working visas for overseas hires. We would encourage you to begin getting your documents authenticated now so you are prepared for the visa application.

Can you apply if you are a Danish passport holder?

Hello Erik, most of the English teaching roles posted on our site require candidates from native English speaking countries. However we do have subject teacher positions for non-native speakers if they have experience teaching that subject. Would my husband and I be able to teach English abroad not having teaching degrees, but having TEFL certification?

Yes! A teaching degree is not required to teach abroad. In many cases experience and/or a TEFL certification is an adequate qualification. We place couples all the time!

What support do they provide if you've been assaulted?

In such a case we would recommend the individual to contact the authorities to report the assault. This would include local police as well as the consulate or Embassy of your country. Of course we would never work with a school or organization that allowed an assault to occur.

Why did you choose this program?

I have always been a traveler. It started with road trips to the Smokey Mountains when I bought my first car at 16. It led me to tackle Tourism as a major at my university and take winter jobs in Colorado.

I had never been out of North America or Central America and decided it wasn't enough anymore. During my senior year, I saved all my money for a two-week trip to China. I spent time wandering amongst the skyscrapers in Shanghai and hiked along the Li River -- I fell in love.

What did your program provider assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

I worked with International TEFL Academy in getting my certification. They had an excellent course that I gained a lot of knowledge and experience from as well as post-graduate country guidance.

They helped with my next steps as far as finding a job, and what I should be prepared for. They got me in touch with Teaching Nomad, my recruiter. They have taken care of everything since and been involved in interview setup, negotiations, and been in touch all the way to the start of my contract.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

A lot of emails! Also, communicating with a lot of different cultures. From the start, you are speaking to people about the experience and journey you are about to set yourself on. The days on the way to your start seem to be more about sharing stories than anything else.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

Funny enough I think it was just medical concerns. Would I have insurance? What happens if I need to go to the E.R. during my contract?

I actually expressed this concern to my recruiter and he ensured that the interviewer had this conversation with my companies and they all reached out explaining how they would take care of me.

Is there time to travel as much as you thought?

Yes! Most programs offer short work weeks as they know you want to travel, but also make sure you save money. Separate your contracts a month or two apart and go enjoy the world!

What is your favorite travel memory?

One of my most memorable travel experiences was a recent trip Sophia & I took to explore Chiang Mai & Northern Thailand. We rented motorcycles and spent 5 days on the road riding the Mae Hong Son loop.

We had only a couple planned overnight stops and spent the rest of the week going where the road took us. We stayed in hostels built in the middle of rice paddies and even stumbled across Brad & Angelina's favorite Thailand hideaway. We rode to waterfalls and waited out rainstorms, traded cigars with locals, and sipped wine by the river.

Living in China afforded us many opportunities to explore Thailand and this was one of the best!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I've personally developed my business acumen in pretty all aspects including funding, processes, hiring, process development, project management and more. But culturally and socially, I've seen first hand the impact that traveling abroad has on the individual and their ability to affect cross cultural understanding.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Rather than hearing a story, I've watched many amazing stories develop over the years. I've seen entire families move across the globe and thrive, I've seen people fall in love, I've seen children born and I've watched people find fulfillment that they never had back home.

I know that Teaching Nomad will be continuing to play a small part in helping more stories like this unfold for decades to come.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

The people that make up Teaching Nomad is what makes it unique. We really value feedback from our candidates & clients and reading the positive reviews on sites like Go Overseas will show you what I'm talking about.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Again, it's the people that make up the team and the leadership to stay on course and always be looking for ways to improve.

One of my mentors told me that you're either growing or your dying, you can't stand still.

Pragmatically, for us to be successful as a recruiting company, we have to provide great service and provide a wide enough range of opportunities to satisfy as many candidates as possible. Currently we do have excellent opportunities for all teachers from recent graduates to Heads of top schools.
