Additionally, Syndey is a gorgeous city!! All of Australia's unique scenery and vibrant livelihood make it an incredibly fun and inspiring place. For a supportive and enriching experience there, I wholeheartedly recommend CEA CAPA.

Best time of my life!

I had the incredible opportunity to spend two weeks in the vibrant heart of Sydney, immersing myself in the bustling city life, surrounded by iconic landmarks like the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Every day felt like a new adventure as I explored the city's rich culture, enjoying its cafés, shops, and the lively beach scene. From catching waves at Bondi Beach to strolling through the picturesque parks, I embraced the surf, the sand, and the sunny skies almost daily.

After my time in Sydney, I embarked on a journey to the breathtaking Great Barrier Reef. Being at the heart of the sea was a surreal experience—crystal clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and the diverse marine life surrounding me felt like stepping into another world. Snorkeling and exploring the reef was not only awe-inspiring but also a humbling reminder of the beauty and fragility of our planet.

Beyond the sights and adventures, one of the most meaningful parts of this trip was the connections I made. I forged lifelong friendships with people who shared this journey with me. From spontaneous conversations to deep, late-night talks, we created memories that I will treasure forever. These friendships, built on shared experiences and laughter, became the heart of my trip. Looking back, these moments—both big and small—make me hope I never forget a single detail of this incredible adventure.

What was your funniest moment?
My funniest moment had to have been when we were at a comedy club, and one of the comedians was making fun of us for being "American" (even though he was American himself). Come to find out, he actually went to Binghamton University! We got his email address because he wanted to keep in contact (and thought this was hilarious).
Pros
  • Close to everything
  • Great transportation
  • Amazing beaches
Cons
  • Not a ton of different cuisine (that you don't see here)
  • Wasn't in Cairns for long enough!
  • Long flight

Best Semester Ever!

I studied and interned abroad in Sydney last year. It was an incredible experience and I made so many amazing memories. The staff was so kind and I enjoyed every day I was in Sydney. I learned so much from my classes and excursions to my own adventures around the city and living in a new country. The Center and accommodations are in the heart of the city with easy access to wherever you want to go. Sydney is expansive, so take advantage of that and explore! I fell in love with Sydney immediately and hope to go back as soon as possible.

Spring at UNSW

I absolutely adored my experience in Sydney with CEA CAPA. I did the direct-enroll program at the University of New South Wales, so I was essentially an exchange student at the local university, with the added support from the CEA CAPA team. I loved how much independence I had, but the team made sure I was taken care of. They were there for any assistance I needed, recommendations I asked for, or opportunities I wanted to explore. Any time I had a question/something to discuss, a team member would meet me for coffee to discuss. By the end of my 5 months, they really felt like my friends and mentors. Beyond the adults, I loved that the team encouraged me to meet other CEA CAPA students in Sydney that were studying at their center (rather than a direct-enroll) because it have me a whole new group of people to connect with. I love love loved my experience in Sydney and largely have the CEA CAPA team to thank.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I went sky diving!! I'm terrified of heights so this was a huge challenge for me, but I met a great group of friends who encouraged me to do it with them! We're bonded for life now.
Pros
  • Support from team
  • Beautiful weather
  • Great friends
Cons
  • UNSW dorms aren't the cleanest

Study Abroad Sydney with Internship

CEA CAPA was my second study abroad experience. Although my first study abroad experience (not through CEA CAPA) was unforgettable, I can honestly say that CEA CAPA is a very special and unique program. My favorite part about the program is that it can be personalized for each person. Most people in the program were placed in an internship that was catered towards their interests or field of study. I was beyond thrilled to have marketing internship at a surf school on Bondi Beach. This was something I couldn't have gotten in a different program. I had great support from the CEA CAPA staff the entire time that helped me navigate a new culture, a new environment, and a new workplace. The friendships I made at my internship have outlived the four months I spent in Sydney, and I couldn't be more grateful.
I also appreciate how understanding the professors were. They wanted to make sure that we got the most of our time in Sydney. Oftentimes they would create our assignments in ways to get us involved in local community or study our surroundings. For example, an advertising class had us go around and find examples of Australian culture in marketing and advertising. From all the time I spent in Bondi, I noticed the local grocery store had advertisements on a community surfboard. This helped me pay more attention to my surroundings and really take in every little detail of the city. We also had some great excursions planned for us!

Pros
  • internship
  • community and support
  • beautiful
Cons
  • Classes were only with CAPA students and not Australian students

Additionally, I had the chance to intern which was my favorite part. It's a big city with lots to explore while feeling safe.

CEA CAPA Sydney, Australia

Going to Sydney Australia while studying with CEA Capa was a once and a lifetime opportunity . Overall, the academics complimented the entirety of the experience, as they not only taught is through interactive lectures, but they also took us on several trips through the city and surrounding suburbs for each of the classes they offered. The professors were all well hearsed in their respective subject areas and they took the time to make sure we understood the material, in a way that we could relate the information to Australia as a whole, furthering our comprehension of what we were learning. CAPA also made everything very accessible for us by providing us a public transportation card, and gave us many opportunities to volunteer and get involved with living in Sydney throughout our time there. Overall, the entire abroad experience was more than I could have asked for and I can't wait to go back some day!

Pros
  • Urban living, with beaches everywhere and easy to travel to
  • Great academics, with knowledgeable professors
  • So many opportunities to travel and explore new places
Cons
  • A lot of writing paper requirements

Aussie What You Did There...

I studied abroad in Sydney the summer of 2019 on a 6-week trip, in which I completed an internship alongside a class. As someone who is a Film & Media Studies major, I was a little worried about whether or not I could find an internship and activities that I would enjoy considering that I didn't know a thing about the Australian film industry. Luckily for me, I was placed in an internship that let me experience a different side to media creation that I hadn't personally worked on before (managing social media accounts, directly editing content for hundreds of thousands of viewers, proofreading presentations to be given around the country). Moreover, I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the Sydney Film Festival, since student tickets were affordable any my schedule was flexible enough that I could attend the screenings. Being able to see movies months before they came out in the States was an incredible opportunity I knew I wouldn't get anywhere else! Finally, the staff and students within CAPA made me feel so at home during my time in the country; any questions, concerns, or issues that I had were dealt with immediately, and I never felt alone with the group I was with. I'm trying not to be the person that always talks about their study abroad trip, but it's hard when I genuinely had so much fun on my trip. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone who has a tight schedule but is willing to make the time to study abroad in order to learn, work, and explore.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge--I'm not scared of heights, but scaling the iconic Bridge, no matter how safe the harnesses are, certainly brought on the nerves. Once I started moving higher and higher, however, I found that my jittery legs stilled and I regained the feeling in my fingers. I will never forget the breeze atop of the Bridge and how much I loved being up at that height. There were absolutely no nerves by the time I climbed down the other side. It was so much fun that I ended up doing it all over again when my mom came down to visit!
