Level 5 Tefl Online course

This course has been incredibly helpful for preparing to teach English abroad. The units really make you consider the challenges you'll face as you step into the teaching profession. There’s plenty of support, along with excellent resources to help you find a job afterward. I completed this course in Thailand while working in a school, and it proved invaluable along the way. The TEFL Academy has created an outstanding course that supports people of all ages entering the teaching field. I look forward to continuing to log in and use the resources and units to guide me further.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Stay Organized: Balancing coursework with travel can be challenging. Set a schedule to dedicate time for the course, and keep your notes organized so you can easily review them on the go.

Use Your Environment: If you're in a non-English-speaking country, immerse yourself in local culture and observe the language challenges people face. It can offer insights into what your future students might experience when learning English.

Leverage Local Connections: Meet other travelers or locals who are learning or teaching English. This can provide valuable perspectives and even offer informal practice opportunities.

Stay Connected: Ensure you have stable internet access to log in for resources, assignments, and any group activities. Download materials in advance if you’re heading to areas with limited connectivity.

Beneficial

I found this course to be very helpful. Mainly because my boss offers a raise to anyone who has a TEFL certificate. The website changed towards the end of my study period and that was pretty annoying. In my teaching experience I have never focused on pronunciation. I never even learned the fancy chart with all the sounds on it. So it was nice to study all of those sounds for the first time and I think that I am a better teacher because of it.
Overall I liked the course and found the info pretty helpful.

What was your funniest moment?
Seeing how much yall stress pronunciation.
Pros
  • Easy
  • Short
  • Clear instructions
Cons
  • Website changed

An Engaging TEFL Course with Room for Improvement

I recently completed an online TEFL course, which I found enlightening, especially as a retired teacher. The course content was engaging and insightful, offering valuable techniques for teaching English. However, I encountered a few challenges: the course felt rushed, and extending it would allow more time for research on assignments. Additionally, structuring it into elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels would enable learners to follow their preferred stream and build a more tailored skill set. Overall, a rewarding experience with room for improvement.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-wracking moment was facing the first assignment. As a retired teacher, stepping back into the role of a student was both exciting and daunting. I questioned if I still had the skills to take on new methods and technology. The only way to overcome the nerves was to simply dive in and start. Once I began, I found myself reconnecting with the learning process and adapting with ease. Each step forward built my confidence, reminding me that it’s never too late to grow and learn, even as a seasoned educator.
Pros
  • Comprehensive Content – The course covers a wide range of topics, providing a strong foundation in TEFL principles and practices.
  • Flexible Learning Pace – Ideal for retired teachers or busy individuals, as the self-paced format allows for gradual progress.
  • Practical Assignments – Each assignment offers hands-on experience, helping you apply what you've learned directly to teaching scenarios.
Cons
  • Limited Course Duration – The course could benefit from a longer timeline to allow for deeper exploration.
  • Lack of Progression Levels – A tiered structure (elementary, intermediate, advanced) would make it easier to follow a preferred skill level.
  • Minimal Peer Interaction – Without group activities, the course lacks opportunities for networking or collaborative learning.

Very detailed

The course is extensive and highly detailed offering many opportunities to practice, learn, and grow as a teacher. The course focuses heavily on your abilities and understanding of the process of teaching English in the classroom; whether that is online or in-person. I personally found the courses resource to be invaluable. If you are planning to learn how to teach English as second language I believe that this course should be a requirement to take you to the next level in your teaching. I was already teaching before I started the course and I now feel far more equipped to tackle the world of teaching English as a foreign language.

Wonderful Option for Learning Online

I recently completed the TEFL Academy program, and I can confidently say that it exceeded my expectations in every way. Balancing a full-time job while pursuing this certification was initially daunting, but the flexible online format allowed me to learn at my own pace, making it incredibly convenient. This flexibility was a significant advantage, enabling me to fit my studies around my existing commitments without feeling overwhelmed.

The curriculum was well-structured and comprehensive, covering all the essential aspects of teaching English as a foreign language. Each module was engaging and filled with interactive activities designed to keep my interest alive throughout the six-month course. From grammar fundamentals to lesson planning and classroom management strategies, I found that each topic was relevant and directly applicable to real-world teaching scenarios. The materials provided were not only informative but also presented in a way that encouraged critical thinking and practical application.

One of the standout features of the TEFL Academy was while the course was online, real people graded the assignments. They were knowledgeable and supportive, offering valuable insights on the assignments I handed in. This interaction added a personal touch to the online learning experience.

Throughout the program, I was particularly impressed by the emphasis on practical teaching skills. The TEFL Academy encouraged us to develop lesson plans and engage in teaching practice, which helped solidify the theoretical knowledge I gained. The assignments were thoughtfully designed to challenge me, pushing me to think creatively about how to engage students in various learning environments. The feedback I received on these assignments was invaluable, helping me refine my teaching approach and build confidence in my abilities.

The resources provided by the TEFL Academy were also excellent. From teaching materials to online forums for connecting with other trainees, I felt well-equipped to succeed. The program included tips for job searching, preparing for interviews, and adapting to life as an expatriate teacher. This comprehensive support gave me the confidence to pursue teaching opportunities abroad once I completed my certification.

Moreover, the community aspect of the program was a highlight. The forums embedded in the course allowed me to connect with fellow trainees from around the world, where we shared experiences, discussed challenges, and celebrated each other’s successes. This sense of camaraderie was motivating and made the learning process even more enjoyable.

In conclusion, my experience with the TEFL Academy was amazing. I gained a solid foundation in teaching English and developed essential skills that I can carry into my future career. The program’s flexibility, engaging content, and supportive community made it an ideal choice for someone like me, who was juggling a full-time job while seeking to advance my qualifications. I am now excited and prepared to embark on a teaching adventure abroad, and I wholeheartedly recommend the TEFL Academy to anyone considering a career in teaching English as a foreign language.

I throughly enjoyed the TEFL experience. It was extremely informative, instructive and inspirational. I did feel nervous about assessments but this was personal pressure. The content is well set out and the ability to do many interactive exercises aided with acquired knowledge and made the learning process more exciting. Having support throughout was invaluable as the 'student' never felt alone. The webinar I watched were insightful especially for assessments. I have lectured before as a travel and tourism facilitator. This course albeit to teach English has many useful tips for any classroom teaching.

First time learning online, great experience!

The TEFL Academy online course is really well structured with assessments and assignments so I really felt like I’d achieved something at the end of each module. The content is fun and easy to understand and provides a lot of opportunities for further reading. I also attended one of the in-person classroom days in London, which was great to meet other learners and have an introduction into teaching in the real classroom. Our teacher was very experienced and engaging. I was concerned about struggling to engage on a 10 hour day but our instructor made it a really fun day! I also found when I needed to contact the online support team that they responded quickly and were very helpful. Assignments were also marked quickly and gave great constructive feedback.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would like to have engaged more with the weekly sessions online.
Pros
  • Insightful and constructive feedback from assignments
  • Well structured
  • Prompt and helpful online support
Cons
  • Add-ons and extensions a bit expensive

Excellent course

I really liked the course, it is very thorough and useful. The contents are complete and the platform is really easy to use. It is full of material and videos. As regards the assignments, I would have liked to get more videos showing -rather than explaining - how to do them. Unfortunately, I had to resubmit two of them. Even though you can take it without any kind of experience, you will find it easier and more understandable if you already have teaching experience. The support is efficient and they are always answering questions and doubts. Overall, it was a good experience and I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for an online tefl certificate.

What would you improve about this program?
I would include more practical videos and it would be awesome to get some observations.
Pros
  • Platform
  • Software
  • Self study
Cons
  • Information is not enough if you don't have teaching experience or a university degree
  • Videos should be more practical
  • It does not include observations
