My First Language Test

Hi, I'm Christine Joy Jaco Forro and I am currently teaching in Indonesia as an English Teacher. I took TESOL as it was required of me by the school.

I'm thrilled with the whole experience as this is the first language test I have taken. I admit that I thought it would be hard but while doing the lesson topic per topic, I have lots of realization and learning.

One that made me rethink my current teaching style is that 'students are my clients' so I have to maintain my cool and think of the most creative way to apply classroom discipline effectively without ruining all the more the mood.

Plus, I got to see videos from the lesson that encouraged me to prepare better so it will be an enjoyable time with my kids if not always, most of the time.

With all other things that reinforced my knowledge and skills, I am so thankful for World TESOL Academy.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
It might be a long list of lessons but hang in there and finish the race. You'll thank yourself when you finish.
Pros
  • Flexibility of time
  • Could redo the practice tests up to four times
  • Discounted price
Cons
  • Since the lessons are quiet long, it took me two months to finish

Good course

The overall course is/was pretty good in my opinion, I really appreciated aspects like which country overseas (i'm European) need english teachers, so I was able to imagine myself immerse in different countries and contexts. I think that could be more useful for the upcoming participants having more video based on teaching's experience.
Nowadays, we live in a society that is leading to a transformation, so i think that developing a way to travel, know culture and people from all over the world will be a win for everyone.

Clear and concise course content, challenging and engaging

I found the course to be wide ranging in its content. It covered all major topics, subjects and aspects I hoped for when I signed up. The course was a perfect introduction for someone like myself who is embarking on a new career teaching English. It helped refresh my memory on previously learned (and forgotten) aspects of the English language and taught me plenty of new information too. The couse material is laid out in a clear and easy to understand format with little to no unnecessary information or explanations.

Thoroughly recommended.

TESOL

Taking the TESOL course was like turning over a new page in my career. The course materials were structured and informative, helping me deepen my understanding of teaching methods for English as a second language. I appreciated the practical exercises and feedback from the instructors, which helped me develop my skills. Completing the course gave me confidence in my teaching abilities and readiness to work in this field. I highly recommend the TESOL course to those looking to start or enhance their careers in English language teaching.

Valuable and Easy to go through

I found this course to be a good refresher for all the language skills I already use without thinking. It is very easy to navigate through the platform and the video content provided was very helpful. I liked that it gave different approaches depending on the level of ESL learners of your class. I would definitely recommend this course to a friend. If I could give any advice is to take notes, it might be tempting to just skip through the lessons because when you know English, most of these concepts just "make sense" but studying and taking notes with care really helped me get through the quizzes and test!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Definitely going over the classification of the verb tenses! I had completely forgotten about the different tense categories so I had to write each down individually with the structure of how the sentence should go.
Pros
  • Self-paced.
  • The platform was easy to navigate.
  • Content is straight forward.
Cons
  • I would like more engagement during the lessons, perhaps interactive activities.

My experiences

As a graduate of my university's French teaching department, the opportunity to also have an English certificate was very important to me. So it was a great experience and opportunity for me.I believe that I can improve my experience in many areas thanks to this certificate. A certificate that I can use in my country or European countries. One of my favorite features of the program is that it puts students first while completing the training. It talks about methods and activities that will improve the teacher while ensuring the student learns.

A very professional and well-structured course!

It is evident a lot of work has gone into the production of this course. It is professional and easy to use, and although there is a lot of information to cover, each part is broken up into sections which makes it easier to digest, as well as some small end of module quizzes which you must pass to move on to the next module to ensure understanding. The final exam tests knowledge of all areas to ensure thorough understanding and I now feel very confident in teaching English as a second language!!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
There is a lot of information to get through on this course but if you take it at a steady pace (I aimed for a module a day and used a whole week to revise) you will get through it no problem! It took me 6 weeks to get through all the modules and one final week to revise.
Pros
  • It was very helpful to watch example videos of a real TEFL lesson.
  • Having the option of support from a teacher on the course was reassuring.
  • Teaching tips and examples of lesson plans were very beneficial for me.
Cons
  • Tenses are a tricky subject, it would help to have more explanation on this for future users.

Higher Learning

This program prepares you for all of the aspects of teaching. As someone who has a great deal of experience in teaching without licensing, this program hit a lot of areas that are familiar and true to the field. I would recommend the program to everyone. This program creates opportunities for people to travel, explore the world and maybe move from one country to another. I would encourage the course makers to offer the courses that are up sold at a discount to people scoring 90% or better. 😉 This discount may encourage students to continue their studies.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Some of the harder grammar topics I would offer extra drilling sessions as they should come second nature in teaching English.
Pros
  • They give you a lot of ideas of ways to teach each topic.
  • They give you some videos to show you how a lesson could be executed.
  • They cover a multitude of subjects in the teaching field.
Cons
  • There could be more opportunities for practice to ensure mastery.
  • There could be more videos to show how the given teaching techniques are executed.
  • A video lesson could be a part of the final before the certificate.
