TESOL/TEFL certification

I wanted to try being an English teacher abroad, and this 120-hour TESOL/TEFL certification was great! I learned a lot about how to teach English to young and older students. A lot of useful information to teach online as well. The website is super easy to use, the lessons are not too overwhelming, you can take your time and it will be fine! A lot of videos and examples are also given which help to picture a real situation and understand how to take care of it. I would recommend this website to other people.

TESOL/TEFL course

I enjoyed the different examples of strategies used in teaching and samples provided. Some of the information I have highlighted to use in my instruction right away. I appreciated seeing the model videos of how applications were used in the classroom. Personally, I would have liked to see videos of how applications could have been used in classrooms where students already know basic English and they needed tutoring/teaching on different elements of English. All in all - 5 stars. I will look into the 60-hour TEYL course (teaching young learners) next, as I tutor elementary school students in Vietnam.

What would you improve about this program?
Provide information for students that already have a basic understanding of English - Students in international schools abroad
Pros
  • video modeling
  • specific teaching strategies
Cons
  • In my opinion, one-dimensional - I felt like it was aimed at early learners that had little to no English knowledge - "apple", "green", etx

Great resource

The course is what you make of it, there are a lot of resources made available and motivated self study can have you well-prepared to teach. All the important fundamentals are covered and nicely summarized. This makes referencing very convenient.

I would also recommend being sure to read and use the supplemental material as it really provides a much deeper dive into each sub-section. If this is the only training you have done these sections will be invaluable.

Overall, it was a positive and educational experience.

What would you improve about this program?
I would add more testing or more module practice exercises
Pros
  • Covers a lot of breadth
  • Concisely sums up the fundamentals
  • Affordable
Cons
  • Less in depth coverage

120 hour course is exceptional value and very helpful for self and gaining employment

The 120-hour course is of exceptional value and very helpful for self and gaining employment. I found that I had not remembered some things from when I learnt English in primary school. Although I apply all aspects daily, I could not recall what those elements were called. This has been a great refresher for my own education in the English language, and I feel more confident about teaching now.

I would recommend this course to first-year university students, even those whose English is their first language. An enormous amount of content here would assist university students in writing academically and even more so for those who use English as a second or third language.

What was your funniest moment?
When I could have sworn I've never learnt something, only to find that I apply it all the time.
Pros
  • Easy to read and follow
  • Assessment is fair
  • Practical course
Cons
  • Huge amount of content

Review of TESOL/TEFL Course

This TESOL/TEFL course provided a strong foundation in effective teaching methods. The inclusion of video demonstrations was particularly helpful, showcasing real-world classroom applications.

While the course covered a wide range of topics, I believe it could benefit from more specific guidance on teaching adult learners with low English proficiency, such as strategies for building foundational literacy skills and addressing learner confidence.

Overall, the course was informative and valuable.

I had the pleasure of completing the TESOL and TEFL online courses, and I must say that they were truly outstanding. The courses provided an in-depth understanding of the essential teaching methods and strategies, making it incredibly beneficial for both aspiring and current educators.

The content was well-organized, covering all the key points with clarity and precision. I particularly appreciated how the courses balanced theory with practical insights, making it easy to apply the knowledge in real-world teaching situations.

Additionally, I found the material to be very engaging and thought-provoking, with a range of activities and examples that kept me motivated throughout the program. I also appreciated the flexibility of learning online, which allowed me to study at my own pace while still gaining valuable knowledge.

Excellent for Experienced Teachers from English-Speaking Countries

If you grew up speaking English, this course does a good job of making sure you know the fine points of grammar that you're likely to teach to students learning English as a foreign language while not bogging you down in assignments that would really just confirm what you already know. That being said, if your only experience with English is some college classes, you may need a longer course.

Experienced teachers will breeze through the sections on lesson planning, pacing, and classroom management, while still picking up a few pointers for teaching English internationally. If you've never taught before, I would not recommend using this course as your sole preparation. While you'll get some good tips, they'll fall far short of what a new teacher needs. I've seen some reviews criticize the teaching tips as obvious, but I think it's more that veteran teachers already know these things, which doesn't mean everyone does. I've known college professors to be blown away when K-12 teachers mention simple things like the importance of learning your students' names and calling them by name.

If you've got years of teaching experience, you're probably considering this course as a fast certification option, and you will finish fast, so just be happy about it.

What would you improve about this program?
It would be nice if the modules had pre-tests that let you skip it if you pass, and then provide longer content sections for those who do not pass.
Pros
  • Experienced teachers can finish quickly
  • Certification proves you're ready to teach English
Cons
  • If you've never taught, this alone won't prepare you
