My Journey to 120 Hour TEFT/TESOL Course

Embarking on the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) course was a transformative experience that enriched my perspective on education and language. From the initial decision to enroll to the final stage of the course, each step of the journey provided invaluable insights and challenged me in unexpected ways. The course not only equipped me with the essential theoretical knowledge but also immersed me in practical teaching methodologies. One of the unique aspects of my journey was the diverse cohort, bringing together individuals from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds. This diversity enhanced our discussions, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and approaches.
The coursework delved into language acquisition theories, teaching methodologies, and practical strategies for effective classroom management. It was intellectually stimulating and provided a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of language teaching. However, the true essence of my TESOL experience emerged in actual classroom after the course. I would like to extend my gratitude to World TESOL Academy for facilitating a transformative learning experience. Their comprehensive curriculum, diverse cohort, and practical teaching opportunities were instrumental in shaping me into a confident and adaptable language educator. The support and resources provided throughout the course contributed significantly to my growth, and I am thankful for the invaluable skills and insights gained during this enriching journey. Finally I wholeheartedly recommend the this course to all the English teachers who seek a rewarding and fruitful journey in language education.

What would you improve about this program?
If I may suggest improvements for the TESOL course, I recommend enhancing the practical teaching components. Providing more opportunities for real classroom experience or interactive simulations would better prepare educators for the challenges they may face. Additionally, incorporating modules on integrating technology into language teaching could equip participants with valuable skills for the modern classroom. Continuous updates to reflect the latest trends and methodologies in language education would further ensure the course's relevance and effectiveness.
Pros
  • Comprehensive Curriculum
  • Diverse Cohort and Cultural Exposure
  • Global Relevance
Cons
  • Theoretical Overload
  • Feedback Mechanisms
  • No scope of ensuring speaking skill of the participants. Needed voice record option for the participants for 5 minutes

TEFL

The course was well balanced, it covered the essential grammar that a new English learners would need to start their English journey, a concise and detailed teaching methods for teachers to deliver the material, and all in the form of interesting classes.

It was basically like whip cream or a good cup of coffee, very rich.

Also, the assistant was available whenever needed. Upon asking the question, the answers arrives either immediately or maximum after 3-4 hours. An email with the inquiry and the answer are sent to the email ox as well.

The answers explains the mater in question in a very clear, and detailed way.

Great course

I thought this online course was extremely well put together and easy to understand. The way they sectioned the modules and submodules allowed for optimal learning and focus. They include videos, photos, charts, and helpful links. I have ADHD and this course has been one of the best online courses I've taken! They provide support should you need it or have any questions about the material. It's very well organized. They set you up for success and I feel comfortable and excited about teaching English! 10/10 would recommend.

Review on WorldTESOL

The course is pretty straightforward and with just an hour or two a day you can easily complete the entire set of courses (TESOL, TEAL, TEYL and TEOL) within the given period of time. I'm not a native English speaker; it's only my second language although I have been learning and using the English language since elementary. I'd say that the course wouldn't be too difficult for those who doesn't speak English as their main or second language but I still advise to further learn through more comprehensive courses.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
The course is worth the money especially for people who are already fluent with English; but for those who don't speak English as their primary or secondary language but want to teach the language, I advice that you continue on learning English further on more comprehensive courses.
Pros
  • The courses are quite comprehensive and are well organized.
  • There's plenty of links to materials and references. Very useful to bookmark for future use.
  • Their support team is quick to respond. Also, the period given is enough time to complete the course.
Cons
  • It was too easy to pass the tests and too lenient to pass. I feel like even those unqualified could pass it because they can just retake the tests until they pass.
  • There's no interactive features in the program. It would be a big plus if the program offers teaching demos.
  • Some items are outdated; things like links to outside websites and other references are either missing or already sold out long ago.

120-hour TESOL/TEFL Course

I recently completed the TESOL/TEFL program at World TESOL Academy, and I am eager to share my experience with prospective students considering a career in English language teaching. Overall, my time in the program was both enriching and challenging, providing me with a solid foundation to pursue my teaching goals. The curriculum covered a wide range of topics essential for effective English language teaching, including language acquisition theories, pedagogical approaches, classroom management strategies, and assessment techniques. The courses were well-structured and offered a good balance between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I were to do TESOL all over again, one thing I would change is to seek out more opportunities for peer observation and feedback. Collaborating with peers to observe each other's teaching practices and share constructive feedback would have enhanced my professional growth and development as an English language teacher. I believe that receiving feedback from fellow TESOL students could have provided additional perspectives and insights for improvement.
Pros
  • Online TESOL courses offer flexibility in terms of scheduling, allowing students to study at their own pace and accommodate other commitments such as work or family responsibilities.
  • Online TESOL programs make education more accessible to individuals who may not have the ability to attend traditional on-campus classes due to geographical constraints or other limitations.
  • Online TESOL programs may be more cost-effective than traditional on-campus programs, as they often eliminate expenses associated with commuting, housing, and campus facilities.
Cons
  • Online TESOL courses may lack the face-to-face interaction that is often valued in language teaching education. This can limit opportunities for real-time communication, collaboration, and hands-on teaching practice.
  • Online TESOL programs require access to reliable internet connection and technological devices such as computers or tablets. Technical issues or disruptions may impede the learning experience for some students.
  • While some online TESOL programs include teaching practicum components, others may have limited opportunities for hands-on teaching experience. This could potentially affect students' readiness to apply their knowledge in real-world classroom settings.
