Teaching English abroad grants you the adventure of living abroad and gaining work experience while earning a salary. While many teaching positions require a TEFL certificate, it isn’t the only path!

Read on to explore alternative ways to teach abroad without a TEFL certificate, and whether that is the right choice for your goals!

Is it possible to teach abroad without a TEFL certificate?

Yes, it’s possible to teach English abroad without a TEFL certificate. However, English teaching jobs are very competitive. A 120 hour online TEFL certificate is the minimum requirement for most TEFL jobs, and applying without one means you’re not maximizing your employability, job security, and earning potential.

Entry-level teachers should consider TEFL courses because most countries and schools require them. Not only is it a legal requirement for many countries, but parents and schools want students to learn from teachers who have studied the basic principles of TEFL and classroom management.
